On Oct. 1, the City of Burlington and Burlington Seniors Community Inc. (BSCI) held the official opening of the new Seniors Exercise Equipment and Social Space at Burloak Waterfront Park.
BSCI donated the equipment and worked alongside City staff to help provide seniors with a safe space to exercise in the community and enjoy the outdoors. Seniors who visit this space have a wide variety of equipment to use, such as balance, steps, cycle equipment and more.
On behalf of the Mayor’s Office and the City, thank you to Connie Price, Peggy Hendriks and everyone from BSCI for championing this project and for their generous donation. Thank you to all City staff involved in creating this space and who helped make this vision to help promote an active and mobile lifestyle for residents a reality.
The grand opening of this new space also happened to take place on National Seniors Day. Our residents are very engaged and active in the city and we want to continue encouraging that with spaces like these. Our older population is part of what makes our city the great place to live. As our city’s senior community grows, we need to make sure it’s easy to stay involved, connected and healthy.
We encourage all of our senior Burlington residents to visit Burloak Waterfront Park and try out the equipment, and enjoy the park and this new social space.

We enjoy the park very much, while there we see that a number of benches have dedications well others don’t. Can one still do a dedication and what would the cost be? Thank you.
Hi Barbara, this is John on the Mayor’s team. Yes, the City of Burlington still offers a Memorial Bench Program. Please visit this dedicated webpage for more details and who to contact at the City if you would like to have a memorial dedication added to a bench: https://www.burlington.ca/en/parks-facilities-and-rentals/donations-in-honour-and-memory.aspx
